BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has written to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, renewing the party’s demand for the unconditional withdrawal of all cases registered against devotees during the 2018 Sabarimala protests. He also sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged gold theft linked to the Sabarimala temple.
In his letter, Rajeev stated that the BJP had consistently raised both issues before the previous LDF government but no concrete action had been taken. He expressed hope that the present government would address the concerns without further delay, considering the sentiments of devotees.
The BJP maintained that its demands are aimed at protecting the rights and beliefs of Sabarimala devotees. According to the party, those who participated in the protests during the 2018 temple entry controversy should not continue to face legal cases, and all such cases should be withdrawn unconditionally.
Rajeev also reiterated the party’s demand for an impartial investigation into the alleged gold theft at the temple, insisting that a CBI probe is necessary to ensure transparency and restore public confidence.
Warning of intensified political action, the BJP leader said that if the government fails to take timely decisions on the two demands, the party will launch statewide protests beginning on July 1. He indicated that the agitation would be aimed at pressuring the government to act on issues that the BJP considers significant for the devotees of Lord Ayyappa.
The letter marks a renewed push by the BJP to keep the Sabarimala-related issues in the political spotlight, while signalling its readiness to escalate the campaign through statewide demonstrations if the government does not respond.
