Vasu Granted Statutory Bail in Sabarimala Case

The court approved bail after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) did not submit a chargesheet within the mandated 90-day period.

N. Vasu, former President and Commissioner of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), has been granted statutory bail by the Kollam Vigilance Court in connection with the alleged Sabarimala gold theft case. The court approved bail after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) did not submit a chargesheet within the mandated 90-day period.

Vasu, identified as the third accused, was serving as Devaswom Commissioner at the time of the alleged incident in 2019. He was taken into custody on November 11, 2025. Investigators had accused him of playing a role in a conspiracy and of falsifying official records related to the handling of temple materials.

According to the SIT, Vasu allegedly intervened to facilitate the transfer of gold-plated copper sheets from the temple’s door frames to another accused, Unnikrishnan Potty. The agency claimed that Vasu’s correspondence described the sheets as ordinary copper rather than gold-plated, a classification that reportedly influenced the Board’s decision to release the materials under the pretext of maintenance work.

Earlier, four other accused in the case — Unnikrishnan Potty, Murari S. Babu, S. Sreekumar, and Sudheesh Kumar — had already secured bail. The investigation into the alleged theft and related procedural lapses remains ongoing.
