The BCCI confirmed in a statement on November 20 that Suryakumar Yadav, India's power hitter and top-ranked Twenty20 international batsman, will captain his team for the five-match Twenty20 international series against Australia at home beginning on November 23.

The schedule states that the opening match between India and Australia will take place in Visakhapatnam on November 23. This is just four days after India's domestic ICC Cricket World Cup campaign came to an end.

Thiruvananthapuram will host the second Twenty20 International on November 26. On November 28, the third game will take place in Guwahati.December 1st in Raipur will host the fourth match, and December 3rd in Bengaluru will host the fifth and final match.

Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury during the Cricket World Cup league stage match against Bangladesh, and the BCCI announced that he will not be playing.Shreyas Iyer will join the team as vice-captain for the final two Twenty20 Internationals of the series in Raipur and Bengaluru. However, Suryakumar's deputy for the first three Twenty20 Internationals would be Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Sanju Samson was left out of the squad this time. Additionally included in the squad are Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma, who were a member of the Indian team that won the gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. The team does not include seniors Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.
