A special court in Karnataka has directed the Lokayukta police to investigate Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over allegations related to the illegal allotment of 14 compensatory sites to his wife, Parvathy B M, by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The order follows a complaint by activist Snehamayi Krishna and comes after the Karnataka High Court upheld the governor’s approval for an investigation.

The case involves compensatory sites allotted to the CM's wife in an upscale Mysuru area, raising suspicions of undue influence. The High Court noted that Siddaramaiah’s role in securing undue benefits for his wife warrants investigation under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court also observed that Siddaramaiah's family obtained undue advantage by swapping lower-value land with prime plots, which the court ruled could involve misuse of his position as a public servant.

In its order, the special court highlighted that the High Court's ruling found sufficient grounds for the investigation. The Lokayukta police have been asked to submit their report by December 24, 2023.

Senior counsel Lakshmy Iyengar, representing Krishna, argued for the necessity of an investigation, presenting the High Court's judgment as a crucial point in the case. The court’s decision underscores the need for transparency and accountability when it comes to public officials allegedly misusing their positions for personal gain.
