Kerala CM meets Union Finance Minister in Delhi

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held an informal meeting with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the national capital on Wednesday.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held an informal meeting with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the national capital on Wednesday. The meeting, lasting around 50 minutes, was also attended by Kerala Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar and the state’s Special Representative KV Thomas. Despite ongoing political differences between the Left Democratic Front (LDF)-ruled Kerala and the BJP-led Centre—particularly over issues like disaster relief for Wayanad and central funding—the meeting highlighted the state’s efforts to address financial challenges and strengthen its relationship with the Centre.

The LDF's outreach to the Centre is notable given the growing tensions and accusations from the Opposition Congress in Kerala, which suggests a tacit alliance between the LDF and BJP ahead of next year’s state elections. While the meeting's specific outcomes remain unclear, the symbolism of dialogue amidst political differences is significant, signaling potential shifts in Kerala’s political landscape and its engagement with national governance.
