Dravidian Nationalism: Actor Vijay Outlines Road-Map for 2026

Tamil actor and TVK leader Vijay indirectly targeted the ruling DMK in a public meeting, stating that the forces dividing the country and those committing corruption are enemies of his party.

Tamil actor and TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam - Tamil Nadu Victory Federation) leader ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay (Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar), who addressed a public meeting for the first time as a political leader, indirectly targeted the ruling DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and criticized it. He was addressing a public meeting organized for the first time in 8 months after the launch of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Party. He said that the forces that divide the country with various factors and those who commit corruption are the enemies of his party.

‘One Caste, One God’

In his debut political speech, Vijay outlined his party’s values, with the slogan, “One caste, One God.” He emphasized equality, stating that all members of his party would be treated equally. He acknowledged Periyar as his party’s ideological leader but clarified that while they embrace his principles of women’s education, equality, and social justice, they do not endorse his atheistic stance.

Vijay said that he may not have political experience, but he is not afraid of politics. He said that politics is not like cinema, it is a battlefield. Here it will be a bit serious. Whether it's a snake or politics, should it be taken seriously? Or take it in hand with a smile? We are called to decide. Vijay said that he can face challenges of political field and stand up for the public cause.

TVK to take on DMK & BJP

Thalapathy criticized the ruling DMK and its family and said that they are running the anti-people government a Dravidian model government. In Vijay's speech which lasted for about 50 minutes, the Tamil hero made the party's stand and his political ideology clear. Vijay made it clear that he opposes BJP in terms of ideology. He concluded that secularism, equality and social justice are the ideologies of his party. They will disagree with those who do not follow these. In challenging DMK’s portrayal of the BJP as “fascist,” Vijay asked, “If they are fascist, then what are you doing?”

Power Sharing in 2026 Assembly Polls

Vijay also announced that he will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. But Vijay is currently shooting for his last film. He also said that once the film is released, he will completely enter politics and quit films. But while shooting the movie, he surprised everyone by holding the first public meeting of his party.

‘I Will Conquer Like NTR & MGR’

I left films when my career was at peak time and entered politics for you. Many criticize me as a film artist. Reflecting on similar reactions faced by MGR and NTR when they entered politics, Vijay remarked, “They too were called actors, yet they went on to rule their states. Like them, I will conquer as well!”. MGR who created a sensation in Tamil Nadu and NTR who created a sensation in Andhra Pradesh are also artists.

"Many people describe us as children in politics. But we are children playing with the serpent (politics) with great self-confidence. We will lead the party with aspirations of Periyar EV Ramaswamy, K. Kamaraj, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Velu Nachiyar, Anjali Ammal," said Vijay.
