Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day State visit to Bhutan to strengthen India's unique relations with the Himalayan nation as part of the country's 'Neighborhood First' Policy.

Upon his arrival at Paro airport, PM Modi was greeted with a red-carpet welcome. Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay warmly received him and accorded a ceremonial welcome.

The visit underscores the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan and the Government's emphasis on its Neighbourhood First Policy, according to a release by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Expressing his warm welcome in Hindi, the Bhutanese prime minister wrote, "Bhutan mein aapka swagat hai mere bade bhai @narendramodi Ji."

Before his arrival, PM Modi shared his excitement about the visit on social media, stating, "On the way to Bhutan, where I will be attending various programs aimed at further cementing the India-Bhutan partnership. I look forward to talks with Majesty the King of Bhutan, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and Prime Minister @tsheringtobgay."

Originally scheduled between March 21 and 22, the visit was postponed due to inclement weather in Bhutan.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to have an audience with Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, and Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan. Additionally, he will hold discussions with the Prime Minister of Bhutan.
