Kerala experienced widespread damage as heavy rains and strong winds battered the state on Wednesday. Numerous houses were damaged, trees uprooted, and water levels in rivers and dams rose steadily. High tides and sea incursions were reported in Thrissur and Ernakulam districts, while landslides caused significant disruption in the high ranges of Kozhikode. Authorities noted severe damage to homes in Alappuzha, Kannur, and Idukki districts due to the downpour and winds since Tuesday night.

In Kollam district, a portion of the "annadana mandapam" (dining hall) at the famed Ochira Parabrahma Temple collapsed under the incessant rain. To manage the excess water, shutters at several dams, including Malankara, Pambla, and Kallarkutty, were raised.

The Ernakulam District Administration advised residents along the Muvattupuzha and Thodupuzha rivers to remain vigilant as three shutters of Malankara Dam were raised by one meter each. In response to the ongoing rainfall, educational institutions in Kottayam district were given a holiday on Wednesday.

The latest radar imagery predicts moderate to intense rainfall with winds up to 40 kmph in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts in the coming hours. The State Disaster Management Authority cautioned that major roads might experience waterlogging and reduced visibility, potentially causing traffic congestion.They recommended regulating traffic and restricting non-essential travel to ensure public safety.
