H D Revanna Granted Conditional Bail in Hassan Sex Abuse Case

JD(S) MLA HD Revanna was released from Parappana Agrahara jail on Tuesday afternoon, following a special court's decision to grant him conditional bail

JD(S) MLA HD Revanna was released from Parappana Agrahara jail on Tuesday afternoon, following a special court's decision to grant him conditional bail. The bail was issued in connection with a case involving the alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman by his son, JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, and others.

Upon completing the release procedures, Revanna departed for his father and former president HD Deve Gowda’s house in Padmanabhanagar. The Special Court for Elected Representatives granted him bail on the condition of executing a personal bond for Rs 5 lakh with two sureties.

Under the bail conditions, Revanna is prohibited from threatening or tampering with prosecution witnesses, the complainant, or the victim. He must also not evade investigation and is required to appear before the Investigating Officer (IO) whenever summoned. Additionally, he must surrender his passport to the Court and obtain written permission before leaving the State. Furthermore, he is instructed to report to the IO every second Sunday of the month between 9 am and 5 pm for six months or until the charge sheet is filed, whichever comes first. He is also prohibited from engaging in similar offences.

Revanna's arrest on May 4 by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged serial sex abuse in Hassan preceded his custody in the SIT until May 8, after which he was remanded in judicial custody until May 14.

The case originated from a complaint filed by the 20-year-old son of the elderly victim at the KR Nagara police station in Mysuru on May 2. The complainant alleged that an aide of Revanna, Sathish Babanna, abducted his mother on April 29 at Revanna's instruction. Babanna was arrested on May 3 and placed in judicial custody. The victim was rescued on May 4 from a farmhouse in Kalenahalli in Mysuru’s Hunsur taluk, which belonged to Revanna’s associate, Rajashekar. The survivor has also accused Revanna’s son, Prajwal, of repeated rape.
