ABVP Announces Nationwide Protests after NTA Cancels NET

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the operations of the National Testing Agency (NTA). This demand follows the cancellation of the June 2024 UGC-NET exam, which was annulled a day after it was conducted due to concerns over the exam's integrity. The Union education ministry has already ordered a CBI investigation and promised a new examination date.

Over 11 lakh students appeared for this year's UGC-NET, an exam crucial for determining eligibility for assistant professorships and junior research fellowships in Indian universities and colleges. The ABVP has criticized the NTA, which operates under the Union education ministry, for undermining students' trust in its examination processes. ABVP national general secretary Yagywalkya Shukla stated that the NTA's preparations and credibility are now questionable.

The NTA is also facing scrutiny over discrepancies in this year’s NEET-UG, the medical entrance exam, prompting the ABVP to call for another CBI probe. Shukla highlighted the prevalence of paper leaks and emphasized the need for the central government to prevent such scams, which he says have eroded the credibility of NTA-conducted exams.

"The government needs to ensure transparent exams and restore students' confidence in the examination process. The entire mechanism and process of the NTA should be subject to a CBI inquiry,"

In response to these issues, the ABVP has organized nationwide protests. Demonstrations will include the burning of effigies at Delhi University on Thursday. Additionally, a delegation from ABVP plans to meet with the Union education minister to reiterate their demand for a CBI inquiry.

Apart from the UGC-NET and NEET, the NTA is responsible for conducting several key central examinations, including JEE, GMAT, GPAT, and CAT. The ABVP's call for a comprehensive investigation aims to address the widespread concerns over the integrity and credibility of these critical examinations.
