3,300 kg drugs seized by NCB off the Gujarat coast

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in collaboration with the Indian Navy and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), intercepted a boat manned by suspected Pakistani crew members off the coast of Gujarat, seizing a staggering 3,300 kilograms of drugs. This marks the largest narcotics seizure ever recorded in the Indian subcontinent, with an estimated international market value exceeding Rs 2,000 crore.

The confiscated narcotics, labeled as "Produce of Pakistan," comprise 3,089 kilograms of cannabis, 158 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 25 kilograms of morphine. Acting on intelligence gathered from a surveillance aircraft, an Indian Navy vessel, on a mission at sea for two days, intercepted the suspicious boat upon its entry into Indian territorial waters.

Subsequent investigation of the vessel led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of drugs. Consequently, the authorities apprehended all five crew members and impounded both the boat and the illicit substances. The apprehended boat, along with the drugs and the crew, has been transported to Porbandar, Gujarat, for further legal proceedings.

An ongoing investigation seeks to ascertain more details about the suspected Pakistani crew members and to trace the origin and intended destination of the seized narcotics. In response to the operation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the law enforcement agencies for their dedication in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a drug-free Bharat.

"The historic success underscores our government's resolute commitment to eradicating drug abuse in our nation. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the NCB, the Navy, and the Gujarat Police for their commendable efforts," stated Shah in a statement posted on social media platform X.

This interception is yet another testament to the Indian Navy's vigilance and efficiency in safeguarding national interests, having previously conducted numerous successful drug interdiction operations at sea.
