BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s latest organisational changes indicate that the party is preparing early for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections while seeking to strengthen its appeal among younger voters.
The expanded responsibilities given to 41-year-old general secretary Anoop Antony, including his appointment as the narrative in charge of Mission 2029 and his oversight of state cells, point to a greater emphasis on digital communication and youth-oriented messaging. The move suggests that social media and online outreach are likely to play a more prominent role in the party’s electoral strategy.
The decision comes amid perceptions that the BJP’s appeal among younger voters has weakened in recent times. Antony’s proximity to both the national leadership and the state president also adds significance to his expanded role in shaping the party’s communication strategy.
The organisational reshuffle also seeks to distribute responsibilities across regions and accommodate internal equations within the state unit. General secretaries M T Ramesh and S Suresh have been assigned separate regional clusters, with Ramesh overseeing the Kozhikode-Palakkad cluster and Suresh responsible for the Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram cluster.
The division is expected to establish clearer lines of organisational responsibility while maintaining a balance between different regional and internal interests within the BJP’s Kerala unit.
