US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are expected to meet on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy, according to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Sullivan said, "He (Biden) expects to see Prime Minister Modi here. It's up to the Indians to formally confirm his attendance, but our expectation is that the two of them will have the opportunity to encounter one another. The nature of that encounter is still fluid because so much of the schedule is fluid."

India's Foreign Secretary, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, confirmed that Modi will travel to Italy on Thursday (June 13), marking his first overseas trip after assuming office for a third consecutive term. Italy has invited India to attend the 50th G7 Summit on June 14 as an Outreach Country. During his visit, Modi is expected to meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, although details of other bilateral meetings are still being finalized.

Sullivan also mentioned that President Biden had congratulated Prime Minister Modi over the phone on his recent election victory and his swearing-in for a third term while they were in Paris.

When asked about allegations involving an Indian official in a plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist leader, Sullivan stated that the US would continue to address the issue at the highest levels. "We have made our views known on this issue, and it will be a continuing topic of dialogue between the US and India, including at very senior levels," he added.
