Rashmika Mandanna Becomes National Ambassador for Cyber Safety

In a remarkable move to tackle the growing menace of cybercrime, the Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Pan India actress Rashmika Mandanna as the ‘National Ambassador for Promoting Cyber Safety.’ This comes in the wake of a disturbing incident where a deepfake video of the actress surfaced online, sparking widespread discussions about digital security.

The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) will spearhead nationwide campaigns with Rashmika at the forefront, focusing on raising awareness about cybercrime threats. These include online fraud, cyberbullying, AI-generated malicious content, and the increasingly pervasive issue of deepfake videos. As someone who has experienced the traumatic impact of cybercrime firsthand, Rashmika is keen to use her platform to educate and protect others from similar threats.

Sharing her experience on Instagram, Rashmika emphasized the importance of staying alert in the digital age. "A while ago, a deepfake video of me circulated on social media, which is considered a cybercrime. Following that experience, I chose to take a stand against cybercrime and raise awareness about it.. I am happy to get support from the Indian government in this effort," she said.

In her new role, Rashmika aims to foster a culture of cyber hygiene and safety, helping individuals and communities protect their online identities. "Cybercrime is a dangerous and pervasive threat," Rashmika stated. "It is crucial that we come together to combat these threats and protect our digital spaces."
