Indian cinema’s two legendary stalwarts, Thalaivar Rajinikanth and Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, are all set to reunite on the big screen again. The two who have shared screen space in films like Hum, Andhaa Kaanoon and Geraftaar, will be seen sharing the screen space after almost 32 years with the upcoming film currently untitled (Thalaivar 170 project).

Veteran stars Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan on Wednesday started filming for TJ Gnanavel's upcoming movie in Chennai. Backed by Lyca Productions, to be produced by A. Subaskaran, this movie is billed as an entertainer with a message.

An excited Rajinikanth (72) shared a picture with an Amitabh Bachchan, his mentor, on his official X account from the sets of the film.

"After 33 years, I am working again with my mentor, the phenomenon, Shri Amitabh Bachchan in the upcoming Lyca's 'Thalaivar 170' directed by TJ Gnanavel. My heart is thumping with joy!"

In his personal blog, Amitabh Bhachchan wrote that he is set to shoot his first scene for the movie with Rajnikanth.

"A new project hsa started today, the one with Rajnikanth ji... and getting together on a professional platform, has been coming in years", the 81 years-old Big B said.

Amitabh described Rajnikanth as an "extraordinary human".

The film, which was announced in March, marks Rajinikanth's 170th project. Popular actors from other film industries - Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier and Dushara Vijayan also star in the movie.
