Anvar's Political Gamble Faces INC Block Ahead of Bypoll

Congress rejects LDF MLA P V Anvar's attempt to align with UDF for Kerala bypolls, stating he must withdraw his Palakkad candidate.

Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan dismissed Anvar's proposal, stating that there would be no discussion about replacing UDF candidate Ramya Haridas in Chelakkara. Satheesan criticized Anvar for his contradictory moves, highlighting that Anvar had already fielded candidates in both Palakkad and Chelakkara. Satheesan questioned, "How can Anvar now demand that the UDF withdraw its candidate?" He further urged Anvar to stop making light of the situation, particularly when discussing the potential replacement of Ramya.

State Congress president K Sudhakaran also rejected Anvar’s demands, urging him to use “political wisdom” to support the UDF’s bid in Chelakkara instead of causing division.

Anvar, however, remains defiant. He hinted that he might withdraw his candidate from the Palakkad byelection, arguing that the Congress was provoking him so they could blame him for a potential loss. “If my candidate runs in Palakkad, they’ll say the BJP won because of me,” Anvar stated.

While Anvar remains non-committal about Palakkad, he has made it clear that his candidate will not back down in Chelakkara. “Congress workers in Chelakkara oppose Ramya. People will vote for N K Sudheer,” Anvar said. A final decision on Palakkad will be made during a convention on Wednesday.
