SC says can order release of DJB funds even after their lapse

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court assured the AAP government that it could still order the release of Rs 3,000 crore funds for the Delhi Jal Board even after they expire on March 31.

A bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud noted the arguments of senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing the AAP government, that the request needed urgent attention as the funds for the Delhi Jal Board would expire on March 31.

The bench, also including justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, stated that it would hear the plea on April 1.

"We will schedule it for April 1 and if we decide something, a decision can be reversed. No problem," the CJI said when Singhvi insisted on a March 21 hearing.

The senior lawyer mentioned that the budget was passed correctly, yet the funds for the DJB were not released, potentially leading to the lapse of the fund.
