Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi will be having its students’ union elections on March 22 after a gap of four years. The results will be announced on March 24. The last time elections were held for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) was in 2019.

As per the schedule provided by JNU’s election committee, the tentative voters’ list will be displayed on Monday and can be corrected until Tuesday. Corrections to the list can be made on March 12 from 9 am to 5 pm.

Nomination forms will be issued on March 15 from 2 pm to 5 pm. The nomination filing window will open on March 16 at 9.30 am and close by 5 pm on the same day. The list of valid nominations will be posted on Saturday, March 17, at 9 am. Candidates can withdraw their nominations between 10 am and 1 pm on the same day, after which the final list of candidates will be displayed at 3 pm.

A University Governing Body Meeting (UGBM) is scheduled for March 20, followed by a presidential debate where candidates will address fellow students.

Voting will take place on March 22, and the counting of votes is set for March 24, after which the results will be declared.

This year, the JNU general body passed a resolution to extend the age limit for candidates contesting the students’ union elections by two years, as per an official document. The document mentioned that the Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations, along with the JNUSU Constitution and Supreme Court Guidelines, prescribe age limits for candidates. The University General Body (UGBM) mandated the demand for a two-year age relaxation to allow more students to contest the JNUSU elections for 2023-24.
