Daily earnings for tea garden workers in Assam to rise

The Assam government is going ahead to increase the daily wage of tea garden employees in Assam after the Mamata Banerjee's West Bengal government approved an increase in wages for tea workers by Rs 18.

According to information obtained, Assam would recommend raising the pay of tea garden workers from the current Rs 235 to Rs 250 in the Brahmaputra Valley and from Rs 210 to Rs 235 in the Barak Valley.

The Chief Minister will preside over a meeting of the associations representing tea planters and tea labourers to determine the pay of tea labour within one or two days.

It should be noted that the state government last increased the pay scale in August 2022. Prior to it, the daily rates in the Barak Valley and Brahmaputra Valley were respectively Rs. 205 and Rs. 183.
