The ICC's meeting on Friday to decide the future of the Champions Trophy was postponed within 15 minutes. The ICC has made it clear to the Pakistan Cricket Board that there is no other option but to choose the 'hybrid model.'
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February next year. But India has said that they will not go to Pakistan to play the tournament. India is in favour of playing the Champions Trophy in a 'hybrid model.' That is, most of the matches will be played in Pakistan. But India will play elsewhere. Which Pakistan did not agree to accept at all. They made it clear that they did not agree to organise the tournament in a hybrid model.
Even before Friday's meeting, the chairman of the Pakistan Board maintained his strict stance. It is heard that members of different countries of the ICC were sympathetic to Pakistan. But with the hybrid model, the Pakistan board chairman took a rigid stance, and everything turned around. The meeting did not proceed. It breaks down in the middle. Pakistan was made clear that if they do not agree to the hybrid model, then the tournament will be without them. Many present at the meeting said that Pakistan also knows that holding the tournament without India means not a single penny will go into the ICC's coffers. So there is no question of holding the tournament without India. If it has to be removed, if no solution is found, then Pakistan will be excluded.
The Pakistan board chief was also informed in the ICC meeting that talks are possible only if they agree to the hybrid model. If not, there isn't. A draft meeting is scheduled for Saturday. But it all depends on Pakistan's decision. If they agree to the hybrid model, then India will play their match in the UAE. If you don't agree, all negotiations are over. Pakistan will be released from the Champions Trophy. It will be outside Pakistan.
