Ravichandran Ashwin has created a new record as an Indian cricketer. He made this record after taking the second wicket in the second inning against England. He became the second-highest wicket-taker for an Indian against England in Tests. He has overtaken Anil Kumble.
Kumble dismissed 92 batsmen in 19 Tests against England. Ashwin has surpassed that precedent. He now has 93 wickets. He is behind another spinner, B.S. Chandrasekhar. Chandrasekhar has 95 wickets in 23 Tests. Ashwin has a chance to overtake Chandrasekhar in the next test, if not in this one.
Before playing this Test in Hyderabad, Ashwin had 88 wickets in 19 Tests against England. After taking three wickets in the first innings of this Test, he has taken two wickets in the second innings so far. Kumble is followed by Bishan Singh Bedi in the list. He took 85 wickets in 22 Tests. Kapil Dev is fifth on the list. He took 85 wickets in 27 Tests. However, James Anderson, who is not playing in this test, is at the top of the list. He has taken 139 wickets in 35 Tests against India.
Not only this, Ashwin is standing in the face of another precedent. He has 495 wickets in Tests so far. He can become the second Indian bowler after Kumble to take 500 wickets in Test cricket.
On the other hand, Ashwin and Jadeja have touched another record as the most successful bowlers in Indian bowling. Ashwin and Jadeja took three wickets on the first day of the Test series against England on Thursday. Together, the two experienced spinners have taken 506 wickets in 50 Test matches. Earlier, Kumble and Harbhajan shared 501 wickets in 54 Tests. Ashwin has taken 278 wickets, and Jadeja has taken 228 Test wickets.
