To combat the rising number of road accidents, Kerala police are proposing the installation of AI cameras on state highways and minor roads. This decision was made during a high-level meeting attended by Law and Order ADGP Manoj Abraham and Transport Commissioner Ch Nagaraju.

The meeting focused on implementing measures to reduce accidents and casualties. Joint operations between police and motor vehicles department officials will be conducted to counter traffic violations. Intensive traffic checking will be carried out across the state, with a focus on accident-prone spots.

Key Measures to Enhance Road Safety

·         Vehicle Checking: Focus on detecting over-speeding, drunk driving, overloading, rash driving, and non-wearing of helmets and seat belts.

·         Road Safety Authority Meetings: To be conducted in all districts to rectify engineering glitches and enhance road safety.

·         Pedestrian Safety: Awareness campaigns to sensitize the public on pedestrian safety.

·         Special Adalats: To ensure payment of e-challans by traffic offenders.

·         Night Patrol and Highway Police: Activation of night patrol and deployment of highway police vehicles at regular intervals, equipped with speed radars and alcometers.

The proposal for AI cameras is part of the state's efforts to reduce road accidents, similar to the Safe Kerala Project, which aims to install 726 AI cameras across the state
