The Election Commission (EC) has released the schedule for bye-elections for 13 assembly constituencies across 7 states including West Bengal. The by-polls will be held for 1 seat in Bihar, 4 seats in West Bengal, 3 in Himachal, and 2 in Uttarakhand. One seat each is also up for byelections in Punjab and Tamil Nadu. The vacancy in these constituencies arose due to either death of certain candidates or resignation.

In Tamil Nadu's Vikravandi, the NDA candidate will be squaring off with the DMK nominee. Here, the AIADMK has decided to boycott the elections, saying the DMK would unleash "violence" and not allow people to vote "independently". C Anbumani of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, a constituent of the NDA in Tamil Nadu, will contest in the Vikravandi bypoll. 

Villupuram District Vikravandi Assembly Constituency by-election is going to be held on 10th of next month (July). The filing of nominations for this election started on 14th at Vikravandi Assembly Constituency Election Office and ended yesterday. Candidates belonging to political parties and independent candidates including DMK candidate Anniyur Siva, BAM candidate Anbumani, Naam Tamilar Party candidate Dr. Abhinaya has filed nominations to contest in this constituency.

Through this, a total of 56 candidates have filed their nomination papers in Vikravandi constituency. Among them, DMK candidate Annieyur Siva has filed 3 petitions, PMK candidate Anbumani, Naam Tamil Party candidate Abhinaya, independent candidates Gandhiwadi Ramesh, Agni Alwar, Noor Muhammad and Rajendran have filed 2 petitions each. A total of 64 nominations have been received in that category.

The consideration of these petitions will take place on the 24th (Monday). 26th (Wednesday) is the last date for withdrawal of petitions. The final list of candidates will be released that evening. Yesterday, the last day of filing nominations, 32 independent candidates filed their petitions on a single day. In this, the mother of Kallakurichi student Smt. Noor Muhammad and others are notable in the role. Due to this, Vikravandi Constituency Election Office Taluka Office was running very busy.
