Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy wrapped up a productive trip to New Delhi on July 14, where he met top Union Ministers to move key infrastructure and aviation projects forward for the state. During his visit, he sat down separately with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, pushing for quick approvals and funding for a string of major regional projects.

Push for Highway and Road Networks

The Highway and Road Expansion agenda took center stage in a focused, 30-minute meeting with Nitin Gadkari at his home. Reddy pressed for the Union Cabinet to green-light the start of work on the Regional Ring Road (RRR) around Hyderabad. He pointed out that 95% of the land for the northern part of the RRR is already secured. He asked the Centre to okay the southern section at the same time, so construction could run in parallel on both stretches, saving both money and time.

Reddy also pressed for a 12-lane greenfield highway linking Hyderabad (from the proposed Bharat Future City) to Bandar Port, cutting through Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh’s capital. The corridor would slash the distance between Hyderabad and Vijayawada by 100 kilometers, speeding up freight movement dramatically.

He didn’t stop there—Reddy called for critical forest clearances for the Mannanur–Srisailam elevated corridor and pitched a new 6-lane highway from Mancherial to Hyderabad to help ease the pressure on the busy Rajiv Highway.

Expanding Telangana's Aviation Footprint

On the aviation front, Reddy met with Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan to map out the future of Telangana’s air connectivity. Topping the agenda: getting the proposed Mamnoor (Warangal) and Adilabad airports off the ground quickly. Both agreed to push hard for completion, setting June 2, 2028, as the target date to inaugurate the Warangal and Adilabad airports.

Reddy insisted these airports should meet international standards. Minister Naidu promised that Warangal airport’s terminal would honor the region’s rich Kakatiya history and culture. The state government also requested the addition of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, air cargo space, hangars, and Flying Training Organisations (FTOs)—all aimed at boosting local jobs and industry. In a creative move, Reddy suggested the ministry study the possibility of seaplane services between Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar lake and the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada. Minister Naidu welcomed the idea. Minister Ram Mohan Naidu commended Telangana’s proactive approach, saying it set a national benchmark by completing required land acquisitions faster than any other state.
