In a significant address during his 10-day visit to West Bengal, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat highlighted the vital role of Hindu society in shaping the future of India. Speaking at a public rally in Burdwan on February 15, 2025, Bhagwat emphasized that Hindu society is the "responsible society" of the country, noting its ability to embrace the values of unity in diversity.
Addressing an audience of RSS functionaries and supporters, Bhagwat said that the core purpose of the Sangh is to unite Hindus, as they are the "successors of India." He explained that India is not just a geography, but a land with deep-rooted values, and those who cannot accept its diversity have chosen to form separate nations. "Unity in diversity" is a principle that Hindus live by, understanding that the true essence of unity lies in the acceptance of diversity.
He also stressed that the legacy of India is defined by the ideals of its leaders, particularly the values of sacrifice and righteousness. Bhagwat pointed to the example of Lord Ram, who went into exile to honor a promise made to his father, contrasting this noble sacrifice with the figures of rulers who only seek personal glory. These actions, according to Bhagwat, are what have historically defined India and made Hindu society a pillar of responsibility in the nation.
Bhagwat further stated that the RSS’s mission is to organize and strengthen Hindu society, fostering a responsible society that understands and embodies these values. He expressed confidence that a united Hindu society could contribute positively to addressing the country’s challenges, while remaining committed to the principles of justice, equality, and peaceful coexistence.
In a show of solidarity, Bhagwat also met with the parents of a young medic who was tragically murdered last year, offering them support and expressing his condolences. His actions underline the RSS's commitment to social justice and its focus on the well-being of all citizens.
Despite initial objections from the West Bengal government regarding permission for the rally, the event proceeded after a favorable court ruling, reflecting the growing influence and presence of RSS in the state. This rally serves as another testament to the RSS’s unwavering mission to unite Hindus and preserve India’s cultural heritage.
