Priyanka Gandhi named in money laundering case

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi is under pressure in the money laundering case linked to NRI businessman CC Thampi. Priyanka's name has been mentioned in the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Earlier, the ED had also filed a charge sheet against Priyanka's husband, Robert Vadra, in this case.

The ED has issued a statement claiming the involvement of Priyanka and her husband, Robert, in the money laundering case. In 2006, Priyanka and Robert purchased five acres of agricultural land in Haryana's Faridabad through a Delhi-based real estate agent, HL Pahwa. Priyanka Gandhi played a major role in selling the land to NRI businessman CC Thampi in 2010.

Robert Vadra has properties in London, says ED. The assets came to light during an investigation into a money laundering case, the central agency said. They said Robert had a long-standing relationship with Thampi. Thampi was arrested in January 2020 in connection with a money laundering case. ED investigators have claimed that Thampi confessed to his friendship with Priyanka's husband for more than 10 years. The NRI businessman said they had met several times in Delhi.

The Aam Aadmi Party has opened its mouth after Priyanka's name was named in the charge sheet filed by the ED in the money laundering case. AAP national spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar, accused the party of indulging in vendetta politics. He alleged that the Lok Sabha elections are ahead. He claimed that this was a tactic of the BJP to put pressure on the opposition.

Earlier, the ED had questioned Sonia and Rahul in connection with the National Herald case. During questioning, ED officials emphasised on whom Sonia and Rahul consulted during the acquisition of the National Herald through Young India Limited. The ED had also sought to know how the huge properties at Herald were distributed.

After the recent assembly elections in five states, there has been a major reshuffle in the top leadership of the Congress. Priyanka has been removed from the responsibility of Uttar Pradesh. At present, Priyanka is not in charge of any state. After this, speculation has been created about Priyanka's name in the charge sheet of the money laundering case.
