The parents of a 31-year-old doctor, allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, have lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her administration of attempting to cover up the crime and tampering with evidence. The tragic incident, which occurred on August 9, involved the brutal assault and death of a postgraduate female doctor within the hospital premises.

In a passionate statement, the victim’s mother stated that the Kolkata Police, hospital officials, and Trinamool Congress (TMC) representatives all played active roles in attempting to conceal the crime. She alleged that the authorities tried to protect the "main conspirators" and obstruct the truth from coming to light. The mother questioned why the crime scene was not properly sealed and why critical evidence was tampered with, including the failure to thoroughly investigate the presence of 68 individuals seen in CCTV footage.

The victim’s father also accused both the state police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of failing to conduct a fair investigation. He emphasized that the judicial observations had highlighted the mishandling of crucial evidence, including overlooked DNA samples and unexplored witnesses. Frustrated by the lack of action, the parents have demanded the resignation of Mamata Banerjee, holding her accountable for the cover-up and the failure to ensure justice for their daughter.

While the Trinamool Congress leadership, including senior ministers Firhad Hakim and Kunal Ghosh, defended the Chief Minister and accused the victim's parents of politicizing the issue, their defense only intensified the parents’ accusations. The parents allege that political forces are hindering the search for the truth, as they question the integrity of the investigation under Banerjee's administration.

The case has drawn widespread attention, with public sentiment growing increasingly critical of the West Bengal government’s handling of the investigation, further fuelling anti-TMC sentiment across the state.
