Omar Abdullah urges ECI to announce dates for polls in Kashmir

Omar Abdullah emphasized that the Election Commission of India (ECI) should announce dates for both Parliament and assembly polls in the Union Territory. Abdullah expressed disappointment over the absence of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir for the past decade.

Abdullah referred to a report submitted by a committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind on 'one nation one election'. He highlighted the importance of starting this policy from Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah stressed that conducting elections in the region would be a golden opportunity to uphold democracy and set an example for the rest of the country.

Regarding the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), Abdullah stated that inquiries about future meetings should be directed to the alliance's office bearers. He clarified that as a member of the National Conference (NC), he is not directly involved in PAGD's organizational matters.

When questioned about the NC's plans for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Abdullah mentioned that the party would announce its candidates whenever they deem it appropriate.
