West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari once again locked horns in the state assembly over multiple contentious issues, including the disruption of proceedings, the Mahakumbh controversy, and alleged appeasement politics. Adhikari, along with three other BJP MLAs—Agnimitra Paul, Bankim Ghosh, and Biswanath Karak—was arbitrarily suspended for 30 days in what many view as an undemocratic move aimed at silencing the opposition.
A Politically Motivated Suspension
Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay justified the suspension by accusing Adhikari of tearing official papers and throwing them at the chair. However, BJP leaders and political observers believe this is yet another instance of TMC’s authoritarian rule in Bengal, where opposition voices are deliberately suppressed. Adhikari countered the claim by sharing past footage of Mamata Banerjee’s own unruly behavior in the assembly when she was in opposition, highlighting the blatant hypocrisy of the ruling party.
Mahakumbh Controversy: Mamata’s Anti-Hindu Stance?
One of the most heated moments of the assembly clash came when Mamata Banerjee referred to the grand Mahakumbh as “Mrityu Kumbh” (Death Kumbh), sparking outrage among Hindus across the state. Adhikari lambasted Banerjee for her disrespectful remarks, pointing out that she has no understanding of the Sanatan Dharma and its traditions. With over 50 crore devotees participating in the sacred event, Adhikari exposed Banerjee’s deliberate attempt to demean Hindu culture while indulging in vote-bank appeasement politics.
Threats Against Suvendu Adhikari: TMC’s Intimidation Tactics?
In another alarming development, a complaint has been filed with West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose against Mamata Banerjee for allegedly issuing veiled threats against Adhikari. She suggested that a particular community might “rise up” against him, a statement widely perceived as incitement against the BJP leader. Adhikari has vowed to take this matter to the Union Home Ministry and the Calcutta High Court to ensure his safety and expose Banerjee’s divisive politics.
BJP’s Fight for Democracy in Bengal
This entire episode further cements the growing belief that TMC is running West Bengal like a dictatorship, where dissent is crushed, and opposition leaders are targeted. Despite these challenges, BJP, under the leadership of Suvendu Adhikari, continues to expose the corrupt and communal politics of Mamata Banerjee, vowing to bring real democracy back to Benga
