According to a source in the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, former TMC Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra received a notice from the Directorate of Estates (DoE) on Monday for neglecting to evacuate her government bungalow.

The Trinamool Congress leader's allotment was canceled, and she was asked to vacate the house by January 7.She was ejected from the Lok Sabha on December 8 of last year. She now has three days to respond to the notification, according to a request from the DoE.

Mahua Moitra has reportedly received a show cause notice, which asks her to respond to within three days explaining why she hasn't yet left her government housing, according to a source. The TMC leader was instructed by the Delhi High Court on January 4 to submit a motion to the Department of Education (DoE) to be permitted to stay in the government apartment that was assigned to her.

The TMC leader filed an appeal against an official notice that demanded she vacate the government bungalow by January 7 because her allotment had been cancelled following her expulsion. Justice Subramoniun Prasad noted that the regulations permitted the authorities to grant an extension of stay for a maximum of six months in exceptional circumstances, subject to payment of certain fees.

The court acknowledged that Moitra had not made any comment regarding the merits of the case and permitted her to withdraw her petition. It stated that after using its own judgment, the Directorate of Estates will resolve her case.

It further stated that the government must act to evict the petitioner in compliance with the law and that the law requires giving notice to a resident prior to removal.

On December 8, 2023, Moitra was found guilty of "unethical conduct" and evicted from the Lok Sabha for reportedly taking presents from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and giving him access to her user name and password for the Parliament website.
