The Kerala government has ordered a Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) investigation into allegations of amassing wealth against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M R Ajith Kumar, along with former Pathanamthitta Superintendent of Police (SP) Sujith S Das and other officers. The probe comes after Nilambur MLA P V Anvar accused the officers of corruption and illegal accumulation of wealth.
The decision follows a recommendation from State Police Chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb, who suggested Vigilance verification of the allegations raised by Anvar. The VACB is set to form a special team on Friday to handle the investigation.
The allegations against ADGP Ajith Kumar include the construction of an opulent house in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram, reportedly worth several crores. Anvar also accused the officer of having links with gold smuggling networks. Additionally, officers from the Malappuram District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) are under scrutiny as part of the investigation.
Vigilance verification is the initial step in the process, where the agency evaluates whether the claims have merit. If substantiated, a formal inquiry will be launched under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The government order marks a significant move toward addressing the corruption allegations raised by the MLA.
