Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for a detailed report on the phone tapping allegations made by ruling front MLA P V Anvar against ADGP (Law and Order) M R Ajith Kumar. In a letter to the CM, the governor also called for an investigation into the charges, which include tapping the phone calls of ministers and journalists.
Governor Khan expressed concern over the seriousness of the allegations and urged the CM to take immediate action while keeping him informed. The accusations suggest that the phone tapping was carried out under the pretext of monitoring Maoist activity in the state.
Anvar had earlier accused Ajith Kumar and CM's political secretary P Sasi of phone tapping, and also alleged that the ADGP had ties to gold smuggling gangs and involvement in murder cases. In response, the government has launched a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by the Director General of Police, to investigate these claims.
The governor has also called for action against Anvar, who reportedly admitted to tapping the phones of police officers, a violation of Supreme Court directives. The situation has placed the state's Home Department under intense scrutiny.
