The Election Commission announced on Monday that elections for 11 Karnataka Legislative Council seats from the Assembly will be held on June 13, with results declared the same day. The term of these 11 MLCs, including key political figures such as Minor Irrigation Minister N S Boseraju and Chief Minister’s political secretary K Govindaraju from Congress, N Ravi Kumar from BJP, and B M Farooq from JD(S), concludes on June 17.

The official election notification will be issued on May 27. Prospective candidates must file their nominations by June 3, which will be scrutinized on June 4. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations is June 6.

Based on the current composition of the Karnataka Assembly, Congress is expected to secure seven seats, BJP three, and JD(S) one. A senior JD(S) leader indicated that Javarayee Gowda, along with businessmen B M Farooq and Kupendra Reddy, are contenders for the party's single available seat in this election.

This electoral process is crucial as it involves the transition of significant political roles within the state government, impacting party strategies and influence in Karnataka's legislative operations.
