Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the grand Mahashivratri celebrations at the Isha Foundation’s Yoga Centre in Coimbatore on Wednesday. Addressing the gathering, Shah emphasized that Lord Shiva is not merely a deity but an eternal presence, and awakening ‘Shivatva’—the essence of Shiva—is the path to self-realization.
He lauded Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and the Isha Foundation for their efforts in spreading this spiritual wisdom, blending science and spirituality. According to Shah, meditation, energy, and consciousness are not just beliefs but fundamental aspects of science, a perspective that Isha Foundation has successfully highlighted.
Drawing parallels between spiritual sites across India, he said that from Somnath to Kedarnath and Kashi to Coimbatore, the entire nation was immersed in devotion on Mahashivratri. He also linked the festival’s fervor to the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, describing it as a "Maha Kumbh of devotion" unfolding in Coimbatore.
Shah underscored that Mahashivratri is not just a celebration but a transformative night of self-awakening. He described Lord Shiva as a benevolent force embodying both destruction and protection, each playing a crucial role in the cosmic balance.
During the event, Sadhguru likened Shah to Sardar Patel, praising his leadership and contributions. The night-long celebrations at Isha saw thousands of devotees in attendance, engaging in meditation, music, and rituals, marking the occasion with deep spiritual fervor.
