
The BJP is back in power in Delhi after 27 years. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and six of her cabinet ministers at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the BJP sealed the name of Rekha Gupta as Chief Minister of the National Capital. Then the swearing-in ceremony took place at the historic Ramlila Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and top BJP leaders were present at the oath ceremony. Also the chief ministers of the BJP and NDA-ruled states. Rekha Gupta is the fourth female chief minister of Delhi.
Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, Ravindra Indraraj Singh, and Pankaj Singh also took an oath as ministers of state. Earlier, BJP's Sushma Swaraj, Congress' Sheila Dikshit, and AAP's Atishi have served as Delhi Chief Ministers.
Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Andhra Pradesh's Chandrababu Naidu, Goa's Pramod Sawant, Haryana's Nayab Singh Saini, and Meghalaya's Conrad Sangma were present at the swearing-in ceremony. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak and Andhra Pradesh's Pawan Kalyan were also present.
Apart from this, a crowd of about 30,000 people gathered at Ramlila Maidan. Most of them are women and slum dwellers, known as 'Kejriwal's vote bank.'. There were also many minorities.
Polling for 70 assembly seats in Delhi was held on February 5. The results were announced on February 8. The BJP won 48 of the 70 seats. While Chief Minister Atishi Marlena herself won, Arvind Kejriwal's AAP lost after 10 years in power. They got only 22 seats.
