The CPM state leadership is planning to take a more direct role in resolving organisational issues at the grassroots level as part of efforts to strengthen the party and improve its engagement with cadres. Under the proposed changes, senior state-level leaders will be assigned responsibility for monitoring and addressing problems emerging in different regions.
The decision comes amid continuing organisational challenges in several parts of Kannur, particularly in Payyanur and Taliparamba, which have traditionally been considered strong areas for the party. The CPM had previously identified shortcomings in its approach to local issues and candidate selection during the recent Assembly elections as factors that affected its performance and organisational standing in these constituencies.
CPM state secretary M V Govindan has indicated that the existing system, under which district committees primarily handle regional organisational matters, has not produced the desired results in all cases. The state leadership has therefore decided to step in more directly and ensure that problems are identified and addressed without prolonged delays.
As part of the proposed mechanism, state-level leaders are expected to periodically assess organisational developments in different regions. Reviews will reportedly be conducted every three months to evaluate whether decisions taken by the leadership are being implemented effectively at the grassroots level.
The party also intends to identify weaknesses within its organisational structure and undertake corrective measures based on the findings of these reviews. The initiative is aimed at improving coordination between different levels of the organisation and ensuring greater accountability in implementing party decisions.
Strengthening the cadre base and improving political and organisational education are also expected to form part of the broader reform process. Through these measures, the CPM leadership hopes to improve its grassroots network, address regional concerns more efficiently and establish stronger communication between the state leadership and local cadres
