The Communist Party of India (CPI), a key partner in Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), has taken sharp aim at the government’s handling of its flagship Supplyco scheme. Presenting its political report at the state conference on Wednesday, the CPI argued that the decision to supply essential goods without price hikes from 2016 to May 2024 has driven the state-run agency into serious financial distress. According to the party, Supplyco is burdened by debts and unpaid government dues of nearly ₹1,768 crore.

The report accused the LDF government of poor financial management and lapses in implementing welfare initiatives. It highlighted that several welfare boards have either stalled or remain non-functional due to inadequate funding.

Traditional sectors were also flagged as neglected, with the toddy industry cited as an example. While the government actively promotes foreign liquor, the report said, it has sidelined toddy workers who once played a vital role in Kerala’s social progress.

Turning to the national stage, CPI general secretary D. Raja urged stronger cooperation among Left parties within the INDIA bloc. He stressed the need to uphold morality and unity to present communists as credible role models for the public.
