15 Lok Sabha MPs were suspended for protesting inside Parliament over the security breach. Fourteen opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha and Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien in the Rajya Sabha have also been suspended. The 14 Lok Sabha MPs who have been suspended are TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, S Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, Dean Kuriakose, Benny Behanan, VK Sreekandan, Mohammed Javed, and Manickam Thakur of the Congress; PR Natarajan and S Venkatesan of the CPI (M); Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and SR Parthivan of the DMK; and K Subramaniam of the CPI. All the MPs have been suspended for disrupting the proceedings of the House. The winter session of Parliament will continue until December 22. Until then, these MPs will remain suspended.
The suspended members are Dean Kuriakose, Congress MP from Kerala's Idukki, Hibi Eden from Ernakulam, Ramya Haridas from Alathur, TN Prathapan from Thrissur, and Jothimani from Karur in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar MP Manikanchan Thakur and DMK MP Thoothukudi Kanimozhi Karunanidhi are also on the suspension list.
Among the suspended MPs, nine are from the Congress, two from the CPM, two from the DMK, and one from the CPI.
Earlier on Thursday, TMC MP Derek O'Brien was suspended from the Rajya Sabha. He has also been accused of "unparliamentary behavior." According to TMC, Derek had demanded a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday's security breach.
On Thursday, members of the opposition alliance 'India' raised the issue of security in Parliament in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. They shouted slogans, demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Shah's resignation was also demanded.
Two youths entered the chamber from the gallery on Wednesday, dodging the security arrangements of the Lok Sabha. They had colour bombs with them. They spread yellow smoke around the hall. Both were caught by MPs. They were then handed over to the security guards. Police arrested two more people outside Parliament.
Ater the suspension of the MPs, the House was adjourned till 3 p.m.
