
Former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendra Jain is going to face a big setback after the defeat in the elections. The Union Home Ministry has sent a request to President Droupadi Murmu seeking permission to prosecute former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendra Jain. The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday appealed to President Droupadi Murmu to initiate a case against him by the Enforcement Directorate. The approval has been sought under Section 218 of the Indian Civil Protection Code.
Satyendra was named in the money laundering case. He was arrested in May 2022 in connection with the case. The illegal financial transactions came to light after the CBI registered a case in 2017. Satyendra and others were accused in the case. The CBI had filed a charge sheet in the case in 2018. According to the chargesheet, Satyendra had assets worth Rs 1.47 crore between 2015 and 2017. Which is about 217 percent more than his income.
Satyendra was granted bail by the Delhi High Court in October 2024. The former Delhi minister was arrested on May 30, 2022, for allegedly laundering money through hawala. He resigned from the ministry after a few months in prison. Satyendra claimed that he was "ill.". A few months ago, he told the jail authorities that he was suffering from loneliness. Mental exhaustion surrounded him. He was also hospitalised several times. After his release on bail, Satyendra rejoined active politics. He was also a candidate in the Delhi Assembly elections. However, he lost to the BJP candidate by around 21,000 votes.
