Cash for query’ row: TMC clears its stand about Mahua Moitra

The "pressure" outside the party continues to grow. Is TMC MP Mahua Moitra under pressure even within the party this time? The TMC has distanced itself ever since it was accused of questioning the interests of Dubai-based businessmen in Parliament "in exchange for money and gifts". The allegations were reinforced by an affidavit signed by Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani on Thursday admitting the allegations against Mahua and his links. After this, the TMC made it clear that the party would not get into the matter. Party's state general secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "The TMC has no comment on Mahua. The party will not react to it. ’’

Since the beginning of this debate, the TMC has stepped cautiously. Party leader and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has not commented so far. On the occasion of the inauguration of Durga Puja, he has repeatedly spoken virtually in the last few days. However, not once did Mahua comment on the issue. The party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also did not comment. It was clear that the TMC was taking the path of maintaining distance from the allegations against Mahua. But this time Kunal made it clear.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had written to the Lok Sabha Speaker on Sunday against Mahua. The TMC is yet to issue a statement. Jay Anant Dehadrai, a lawyer who had written to the CBI and BJP MP Nishikant against Mahua, is said to be a close friend of Mahua. Mahuai later revealed that he had been threatening Mahua since they parted ways. He also accused her of stealing a dog. Mahua has repeatedly expressed her views on X (former Twitter) handle, including filing a defamation case.

Realizing that the party will not be on the side from the beginning, Mahua has taken this as his own fight. This time, it came to light that the party was not on Mahua's side. On Friday too, Mahua had made it clear to herself that she was ready to go if summoned by the CBI. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has already directed the Ethics Committee to look into the allegations. On Friday, Mahua said he would respond to the ethics committee's call. He won't say anything to the media before that.
