The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s latest budget, calling it a "visionless economic failure" that proves the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government has pushed the state into financial ruin. The BJP has particularly slammed the four percent dearness allowance (DA) hike for state government employees, terming it a "complete sham."
BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya accused Mamata Banerjee’s government of neglecting its employees by continuing with the outdated 6th Pay Commission, while the rest of the country has moved to the 7th Pay Commission. He further pointed out that the Central Government is preparing to implement the 8th Pay Commission by 2026-27, exposing the massive pay disparity for state employees. "This effectively denies West Bengal government employees their rightful dues," Malviya asserted. He also vowed that the BJP, once in power, would undertake a sweeping overhaul of the state's pay structure and financial policies.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari went even further, declaring the budget "anti-people" and proof that the TMC government is "bankrupt." Walking out of the Assembly during the budget speech, Adhikari lambasted the state for failing to address unemployment, regional disparity, and women’s welfare. He accused the Mamata-led government of betraying two crore unemployed youth and ignoring crucial regions like North Bengal, Junglemahal, and the Sundarbans.
The BJP has also raised concerns over the state’s reckless borrowing, which has pushed West Bengal into a severe debt crisis. Adhikari pointed out that the budget provides no solution for the Rs 6,000 crore debt burden, attributing it to the TMC’s economic mismanagement. Union Minister and BJP’s state president Sukanta Majumdar labeled the budget as "directionless" and accused the TMC of indulging in "revdi politics" rather than focusing on economic growth and employment generation.
As West Bengal heads toward the 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP has made it clear that it aims to replace the TMC and implement a financially responsible, employment-driven governance model. With growing dissatisfaction over pay reforms, regional neglect, and the state's increasing debt, the BJP is positioning itself as the only viable alternative to Mamata Banerjee’s failing administration.
