Mysore-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha alleged that the Congress is trying to create an issue out of everything. He said that he wouldn't allow Congress to rename the Mysore airport as Tipu Sultan airport, a name that has already been proposed to the union government earlier for the airport.
Pratap Simha issued a media statement on Saturday. He said that the previous government led by former CM Basavaraj Bommai had already proposed to name Mysore airport after Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. The government will soon make an official statement about the name and it is the final stages. It is unfair for Congress to create such confusion among people by passing unruly statements. During the Previous BJP government, he personally wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on 27th May 2022. He requested him to recommend to the Central government to rename of Mysore Airport as Nalvadi Krishnaraj Wodeyar and he also requested to release money for the expansion of the airport runway. Responding to my request, Bommai released Rs 319 crore for the runway extension.
Further he said, CM Siddaramaiah is trying to appease people of Mysore region. It is not new for Siddaramaiah to indulge in appeasement politics. Even in the past, he was behind organizing ‘Tipu Jayanti’ when the people of Mysore were against it.
Earlier during the Assembly session, Congress MLA Prasad Abbayya had suggested that Mysore's airport must be renamed Tipu Sultan. Prasad said that the Mysore airport must be named after Tipu Sultan. Tipu was a great king and people do believe that. He was the one who brought the land reforms act which helped many Dalit people in the region to get their share of land, he said.
