Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar attacked the ruling LDF and opposition UDF in Kerala on Tuesday, accusing them of hypocrisy for criticizing the State's participation in the Consecration ceremony of the Ayodhya Ram Temple.
On Monday, the Congress-led opposition UDF and the CPI-M-led LDF attacked the saffron party for allegedly transforming the consecration ritual into a state-sponsored function. Javadekar contended that the event was not state-sponsored, but rather was organized by the trust that raised funds from the people to build the Shri Ram temple.
Jawaharlal Nehru, the country's first prime minister, frequently stated that Indian secularism meant the separation of religion and state, according to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the ceremonies associated with the consecration of Ram Lalla at Ayodhya on Monday. Conflating politics with faith for electoral purposes, according to Congressman and state Assembly Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, is to challenge the fundamental principles of democracy and the Constitution.
In response, BJP’s State Incharge chief Javadekar questioned the abrupt emphasis on Nehruvian secularism and threw down the gauntlet to Vijayan and Satheesan, asking them to find the phrase "secularism" in the Constitution between 1950 and 1975 while highlighting the historical background. He said that such views might not be in line with the evolving feelings of a new Bharat, where festivities emphasized unity and shared cultural heritage among individuals from different origins.
