The RG Kar Medical College incident, where a doctor's body was discovered in a seminar hall, has sparked a political storm in West Bengal. For five days, the state has witnessed intense debates and protests, with the opposition ramping up their demands for accountability.
Leading the charge, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari announced plans for a series of protests targeting key government offices. On Wednesday, Adhikari, alongside BJP legislators from South Bengal, staged a sit-in at the Assembly. Addressing the media, the Nandigram MLA unveiled his party's upcoming protest strategy. He declared that next week, BJP legislators would march to Nabanna, the State Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, and the Health Department headquarters to protest against the RG Kar incident.
Adhikari emphasized that these protests would be peaceful but firm in their demands. "We, BJP legislators, have decided to visit Nabanna, Raj Bhavan, and the Health Department next week. Our actions will be peaceful and conducted with a limited number of participants," he stated. The primary demand is for the resignation of Mamata Banerjee from her roles as Health and Home Minister.
Although Adhikari did not specify the exact dates for these protests, sources indicate that BJP women legislators will also be actively involved. The discovery of the doctor's body, suspected to be a case of rape and murder, has only intensified the BJP's demands for justice and transparency. On Tuesday, the Kolkata High Court ordered a CBI investigation into the incident, further fueling the opposition's call for accountability.
