Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma met Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday and discussed major upcoming infrastructure projects of Assam. Among the important projects discussed was the Guwahati Ring Road, a major project aimed at improving connectivity by reducing traffic bottlenecks in the region.
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the importance of key infrastructure projects in improving the country and connectivity with the states of the North Eastern region and the rest of the country. The meeting held in the official residence of the Union Minister lasted almost an hour.
The meeting between the Chief Minister and the Union Minister is significant because it concerns investment in launching rapid economic growth and regional integration to improve road connectivity in the Northeast region.
The discussion is part of a larger vision to construct America-like roads in the North East Region for smooth connectivity by the end of this year, said a ministry official familiar with the initiative. The Guwahati Ring Road project is one of Chief Minister Sarma's pet projects to improve Assam's road infrastructure and connectivity, accelerating the state's economic growth and development.
Later, on X (previously Twitter), Chief Minister Sarma posted, During my brief stay in Delhi, I had a very good discussion with Hon'ble Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari ji about the upcoming Guwahati Ring Road and some other important projects. Grateful for his time and counsel”.
It should be mentioned that the Guwahati Ring Road project is Sarma's pet project to improve Assam's road infrastructure and connections, hence speeding up the state's economic growth and development.
