The Denmark International Foundation For Environment Education awarded the 'Blue Flag' designation, an eco-label, to the Kappad beach once more. The first beach in Kerala to get the honour is Kappad Beach which received it for the first time three years ago, in 2021.
Karnataka beaches, such as the Padubidri in Udupi and Kasarkod beach in Honavar, have already been awarded the coveted 'Blue Flag'. Eight beaches in India have been recognized in total. 33 conditions must be satisfied in order to obtain the certificate.
This covers beach security and the cleanliness of the coast. Achieving the certificate also requires taking environmental precautions and providing effective services. A jury made up of renowned scientists and environmentalists conducts the certification assessment.
Snehil Kumar Singh, the district collector, stated that Kappad Beach received the esteemed designation in light of its eco-friendly practices, efficient waste management systems, conservation of wildlife, and appropriate utilization of solar energy. The collector added that Kappad Beach is one of the world's most cleanest beaches.

Kappad Beach has historically been significant to Kerala's history. More than 500 years ago, in 1498, 170 men under the leadership of Vasco da Gama set foot in Kerala. Nothing was the same throughout the entire State, particularly on the Malabar Coast.
Without a visit to this fabled location, a trip to Kozhikode is incomplete. This Beach was a major hub for the spice trade. One might get an understanding of the location's historical significance by taking a stroll around it. Its small hills and rocks add to its charm.
