He was found guilty on Saturday. Kolkata Sealdah Additional Sessions Judge Anirban Das on Monday sentenced Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment in the rape and murder case of a doctor. The judge said Sanjay was convicted under sections 64, 66, and 103 (1) of the Indian Code of Justice. It's not the rarest of the rare. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Sanjay. The court also directed the state to pay a total compensation of Rs 17 lakh to the victim's family. The victim's father, however, said he did not want compensation. "I don't think money can compensate for this death," the judge said at the time. But it is the responsibility of the state to protect women on duty. This is the rule in the context of the situation. ’

On August 9, the body of a young doctor was recovered from the seminar hall of the emergency building of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. It is known that the young doctor was brutally raped and murdered. The whole country was upset about that incident. 

Nearly five months later, on Saturday, January 18, Sanjay Roy was found guilty. The Sealdah court today pronounced the sentence in the case. Sanjay Roy has been sentenced to death. With a fine of Rs 50,000. The sentencing comes 61 days after the trial began. At first, Kolkata Police started an investigation. Sanjay Roy, who was then a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested on August 10. Later, on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, the case was handed over to the CBI. Sanjay was taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

On Monday, the counsel for the victim's family also demanded capital punishment for Sanjay. While giving the punishment, the judge said, "It is not the rarest of rare crimes." Sanjay Roy, accused of the incident, was found guilty of three counts last Saturday. He was found guilty under three sections of the Indian Penal Code. 64, 66, and 103 (1) were convicted. Among these three sections, the minimum sentence is 10 years imprisonment, and the maximum sentence is death. Life imprisonment was ordered in that case on Monday. It has also been reported that even if these three clauses were given, it did not appear to be the rarest of rare offences.

Doctors who took to the streets to protest against the R.G. Kar case questioned why such an incident is not rare. The events of August 9 shook the entire country. The Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance. One case after another. Following the incident, a task force was formed to ensure the safety of doctors. The former chief justice made one observation after another. After this incident, the infrastructure of AIIMS across the country was changed. The court said the incident was "not uncommon.".
