Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a massive rally in the Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency of Assam today. Shah took part in the campaign for the incumbent MP for the seat, Pradan Baruah. Along with national issues, Shah also raised issues in Assam and the North East in his speech.

Shah appealed to the voters, saying, “On June 19, you all have to decide who you want as a member of parliament, which party should form the ruling government, and who will be your prime minister.”.

“You have two options in front of you; one is the INDI Alliance, headed by Rahul Gandhi. The other, BJP-led NDA is under the remarkable leadership of PM Narendra Modi," he added.

The Union Home Minister also targeted Rahul Gandhi and the Gandhi family, saying,’’ A few days ago, Rahul Gandhi was saying we need to save the culture of Assam. I want to remind him of what his grandmother did to Assam. Thousands of youths were misguided and killed”.

Targeting the manifesto of the Congress party, he said that the manifesto says Muslim personal laws will be established. Whereas the BJP brought UCC to Uttarakhand, the Himanta government in Assam banned child marriage.

He also stated that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has been removed from over 80% of the regions in Assam and claimed that India will develop when the Northeast will develop. The union home minister also stated that the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, said bye-bye to Assam during the 1962 war with China.
