Envisioned as a game-changer for the country’s shipping sector, Vizhinjam is Kerala’s flagship deep-sea port project and one of the most ambitious infrastructure initiatives undertaken in India. Strategically located close to major international shipping routes, the port is designed to function as a global transshipment hub, reducing India’s dependence on foreign ports and strengthening the nation’s role in international maritime trade.
The award citation highlights Vizhinjam’s scale, engineering complexity, and long-term economic significance. By placing the project among earlier award-winning national landmarks such as the new Parliament building and the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh, the recognition reflects Vizhinjam’s stature as a transformative infrastructure development of national importance.
The National Project Excellence Award is jointly instituted by the International Institute of Projects and Program Management (i2P2M) and the Centre for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM). Officials from Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd, the project developer, received the award on behalf of the Vizhinjam Seaport at a formal ceremony held in New Delhi.
