Kerala’s ambitious Vizhinjam International Seaport has earned national recognition after being conferred the National Project Excellence Award 2025 in the Mega Infrastructure category. The prestigious honour underscores the port’s strategic importance and its potential to redefine India’s maritime and logistics landscape.

Envisioned as a game-changer for the country’s shipping sector, Vizhinjam is Kerala’s flagship deep-sea port project and one of the most ambitious infrastructure initiatives undertaken in India. Strategically located close to major international shipping routes, the port is designed to function as a global transshipment hub, reducing India’s dependence on foreign ports and strengthening the nation’s role in international maritime trade.

The award citation highlights Vizhinjam’s scale, engineering complexity, and long-term economic significance. By placing the project among earlier award-winning national landmarks such as the new Parliament building and the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh, the recognition reflects Vizhinjam’s stature as a transformative infrastructure development of national importance.

The National Project Excellence Award is jointly instituted by the International Institute of Projects and Program Management (i2P2M) and the Centre for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM). Both organisations are widely respected for promoting global best practices in project planning, execution, governance, and delivery. Their evaluation process considers factors such as innovation, efficiency, risk management, sustainability, and overall project impact.

Officials from Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd, the project developer, received the award on behalf of the Vizhinjam Seaport at a formal ceremony held in New Delhi. The honour is seen as a validation of the technical expertise, coordination, and perseverance involved in executing a project of this magnitude, often amid environmental, logistical, and regulatory challenges.

Beyond recognition, the award reinforces Vizhinjam’s promise to generate employment, boost Kerala’s economy, attract global shipping lines, and position India as a major player in the global maritime network. As the project progresses towards full-scale operations, the national accolade adds momentum to Vizhinjam’s journey from vision to reality.
