
Supreme Court constituted a five-member investigation team on the issue of Tirumala laddu adulteration issue. Apex Court directed that the investigation committee should consist of two CBI officers, two state police officers and one officer from the Food Safety Authority - FSSAI. It has been clarified that this investigation team will work under the supervision of CBI Director. The bench was reluctant to supervise the probe team by the former judge of the Supreme Court.
Apex Court said that the director of the agency who should be members from the CBI, the DGP who should be included as members of the state police and an officer of the Food Safety Authority will be appointed by the chairman of the agency. Supreme Court opined that Tirumala Laddu is an emotional subject of crores of devotees.
Bench headed by Justice BR Gavai said that an independent investigation committee is being set up to provide assurance to the devotees. Court suggested not using the sentimental affair of the devotees for political purposes. Court has concluded the hearing on the four petitions filed in the Tirumala Laddu adulteration case.
Earlier, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta reported the central government's views to the Supreme Court. He said that central government has examined all aspects related to Tirumala Laddu. However, the bench was told that since the petitioners wanted an independent investigation, it would be better if a senior police officer working in the central government supervised it.
